Hi! My name is Darcy Calas and I have been teaching American Sign Language for 17 years. I am excited to be your teacher this school year! You can find all of my lessons and assignments posted on my Canvas webpage.
Background:
I began learning ASL as a freshman at Fallbrook High School. I loved the language so much that I decided to enroll at CSU Northridge and begin my degree in Deaf Studies. After a year, I transferred to Fresno State University. It was there where I earned my Bachelors Degree in Communicative Disorders & Deaf Studies with an emphasis in Interpreting ASL. After college, I began working as an ASL Interpreter for high school deaf students in a mainstream high school. I then went on to earn my Masters Degree in Cross-Cultural Teaching and my Credential in ASL to become a teacher!
Personal:
I have been married for 16 years and have 2 children, ages 13 & 15. I LOVE playing card games and hanging out at the beach with my family. I am a HUGE Dodger fan and even named my Labradoodle dog, Cody after Cody Bellinger.
Please email me with any questions at darcy.calas@puhsd.org
Thank you and have a wonderful day!
Mrs. Calas
