Hi! My name is Cortney Powers and I've been teaching math for 15 years (12 years at Jefferson High School in Los Angeles and 3 years at Heritage High School).  This year I will be teaching Algebra 2, Math Analysis and MSJC Dual Enrollment Math.

I earned my bachelor's and master's degrees in Mathematics from UC Riverside before I began my teaching career in 2005.  Later in 2018, I earned my second master's degree in Educational Leadership from CSU Dominguez Hills.  In college, I learned that the greek word for mathematics comes from máthÄ“ma which means "that which is learnt."  I have been in the pursuit of mathematics/knowledge my whole life and love to be a part of my students' journey as they pursue deeper knowledge into their passions using the math around them. I can't wait to meet you all and work with you this year.

I will be using Canvas to post class information such as: Lectures Notes and Assignment Calendars

Math XL, Edulastic.com and DeltaMath.com will be used to practice for and take Quizzes/Tests.

I am also one of the advisors for the Black Student Union (BSU) and a teacher representative for African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC).
