Hi Everyone,

My name is Marjorie (Margie) Sotero and I have been a teacher in various capacities for over 40 years.  Currently, I teach the Monday/Wednesday morning High School Diploma class and the Tuesday/Thursday evening GED Class for Perris Community Adult School.

I have been blessed to have a long and varied teaching career.  Obviously, since I am still teaching, I love what I do.  For me, teaching is a calling, not just my profession, and I am so grateful to be healthy and to be able to continue to do what I love.  I taught for five years in locked psychiatric hospitals.  From this I moved to elementary school and taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade, sometimes combination classes and sometimes bilingual classes.  I live 3 minutes from Paloma Valley High School.  In 1996 I was hired to teach at Paloma, where I stayed until 2011.  I taught English, Speech and Debate and was the AVID Coordinator.  I was also the Interact Club Advisor, Safe School Ambassador Advisor and for two years was also the Cheer Coach.  My entire time at Paloma, I also taught Home/Hospital students.   After I retired from Paloma, I continued working with the Home/Hospital students and began teaching the Adult Education classes.  I also teach ESL (English as a Second Language) for Mount San Jacinto College.

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Drama and Liberal Studies from Cal State Dominguez Hills.  I studied Art History and Classical Dance for one year in Florence, Italy.  Upon my return from Italy, I worked in other fields before prayer led me to pursue teaching.  I then entered  the University California Riverside and obtained my teaching credential.  After this, I studied at National University and completed a Master's Degree  in Education and a preliminary Educational Administrative Degree.

I have a passion for travel.  My profile picture is me with two of my grandsons-first cousins- on their high school graduation trip summer 2019.  We are in front of Stonehenge in England.  I also totally have a heart for teaching and thoroughly enjoy my students of all ages, but I have to admit, I really appreciate my adult students.  I know the distance, online teaching is challenging.  It is for me too.  We will all get through this together, and hopefully, be back in our classrooms soon.

Please, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns.

Sincerely, Margie Sotero
